CDR Barry W. Hull, USNR (Retired)

The years I spent flying fighters (jets) taught me the importance of good decision-making. The right decision can save lives, and the wrong decision can cost lives. When you are in command of a multi-million dollar aircraft in a high-stress environment, you’d better be able to make the right decisions under pressure. The same holds in the business world.

Athena Assessment partner CDR Barry W. Hull, USNR (retired), served as an F/A-18 Hornet fighter pilot and held leadership roles such as Commanding Officer, demonstrating operational expertise during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. His military career includes numerous awards, such as the Naval Meritorious Service Medal for exemplary leadership, Air Medals, Navy Commendations with Valor, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. He also completed landings aboard various aircraft carriers, including the USS Saratoga, and his final naval assignment was with the Supreme Allied Command before retiring in September 2008.

Barry Hull has been a pilot for American Airlines since 1992. He owned a successful multi-location retail business for over twenty years.

He has been a military analyst for Fox News Channel and has appeared numerous times on the primary and cable television networks. Hull has been featured on 60 Minutes II, the History Channel, and the Discovery Channel, as well as in a variety of newspapers, radio stations, and other media outlets, locally, nationally, and internationally. He is a regular speaker for schools, groups, and events.

As a civilian pilot, he enjoys recreational flying for pleasure and travel. He has flown missionary groups, organ transplant patients, and military veterans.

Hull received a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in civil engineering from Clemson University.

He is on the Board of the Sportsmen’s Foundation for Military Families, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a healing environment for military veterans and their families through outdoor sports participation.

Hull is the author of the best-selling book It’s All About Judgment, available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, which underscores his expertise in decision-making and judgment.
